whew! that was alot of pictures...hope you enjoyed a little glimplse into my life!! now for the first DIY project i have done for this school year so far...

tissue paper & glitter...what else? haha
tissue paper pom pom balls!! i have been pinning them on pinterest for months now and decided they would at some pizazz in my classroom!!

what you will need...
-tissue paper (at least 10 sheets for each ball)
-scissors
-thin wire

Here are the directions for the pom poms....

1. Choose a pack of tissue paper/color that you would like.
2. Make a stack of about 10 sheets. If the tissue paper is square shaped, you need to cut it to be a rectangle...square will not work.
3. Start folding starting on the shortest side, accordian style...in about 1-2" folds, until the entire stack is folded.
4. Wrap a small thin wire around the middle of the stack to secure it.
5. Trim the 2 ends so they are rounded instead of straight.
6. Beginning on one end, separate each paper one at a time from the stack...pull the pieces of tissue towards the middle wire....pull very gently so it won't tear!
7. Once you've done one side, start on the other side BUT start separating the tissue from the opposite side. ( if you started pulling from the top on your first side, then on the 2nd side pull from the bottom)
8. Then fluff and you'll have yourself a pom pom!!!

It is super easy, and doesn't take long once you've got the hang of it!!
The larger your sheets of tissue paper, the larger your ball. And vice versa!
these are my finished pom pom balls!!
i hope you enjoyed my first DIY post for the new school year....more to come!! until then....here is a little inspiration from me to you...
found this in a cute little paper shop while visiting an old friend.

'i like big books and i cannot lie'

sorry i couldn't resist a little sir mix a lot. anyways, a couple weeks ago i saw someones 'big book' pinned on pinterest and it gave me the inspiration to give you a little inside peek to mine!

first off...what is a 'big book' you say?!..if you were an education major at texas tech...then you are ahead of the game...if not no worries, i'll fill you in. during the last block of classes in early childhood education at texas tech before your student teaching semester....you have lots of big projects/assignments. one of them would be the 'big book' i've been rambling about...and it was my favorite project and it has come in the most handy at school!! they have us create at big book about ourselves to read and introduce ourselves the first day of student teaching...you can make it just plain and simple all about me, the abc's of me, my favorite things, the fairytale story of me, and etc. i went with 'the fairytale story of miss kranz' for the kiddos ...

so here are some pictures of each page of my big book....
the cover

growing up

family

favorite vacations

high school

college. wreck em.

until more....
what i like best about these big books is that you can add to them as the years go on...i haven't ye,t but i was thinking about adding a page for my curent school....or adding in that i have a cute little niece...stella (this was made before her time)!!!!

...the kids LOVE learning more about you...i read this the first day of school and then leave it out for them to browse through...it is the most popular book in the class library all year round...no joke.

i encourage all of you to make your own 'big book' and PLEASE share with me!!

i am so excited to read 'oh the places you'll go' tomorrow for dr. suess' birthday...it is one of my favorites!!
after reading i'm going to have my kiddos brainstorm what places they could go....then illustrate and write a couple sentences telling me where and why!

i am going to bind them together to make another class book...i love watching them read each others writing...

oh the places you'll go writing paper

i would love for you to share how you used this writing paper in your own classroom!! :)

Monday

president's day!

this is going to be a short but sweet post....since the kiddos have actual president's day off.....i am busy creating some fun 'president' activities for tomorrow!!....we are going to read an abraham lincoln book and then 'sticky note' our thinking on paper....and then use our favorite facts to put inside the abe's hat when we do Mrs. Lemon's preseident's day craftivity!!!

Then we are going to write a letter to president obama...the kids can either thank him for all he does for our country or ask him questions that they have about being the president...then i am going to send all of our letters to the white house, and see if we get a response!!! how cool would that be if we got a letter?!?! the kids would be ecstatic!!!!! :)

below are some freebies that i just created to use along with the activities above!!! so click and print away!

if you use the papers above in your own classroom...i would love to see examples or hear how your activities went!! please share!!

that is all for now...happy president's day!
